CONSERVATION DIALOGUE PROGRAMS: MONGOLIA
Recently, TTF was awarded funding by The Trust for Mutual Understanding for an exchange program entitled: Connecting Culture and Conservation: An Exchange to Facilitate Dialogue among Mongolian and American Scientists, Educators and Religious Spokespersons. In spring 2009, six Mongolian monks and educators will visit the United States, where they will meet with university education departments, fisheries managers, and science educators. The project will engage Mongolian and American scientists, educators, and religious spokespersons in dialogue on shared conservation concerns (gold mining, fisheries issues, wildlife management) and offer training that provides state-of-the-art teaching ideas and methods that can be applied in Mongolia. Lamas from the Gandan Monastery have also asked TTF to help facilitate discussions with monks in 24 aimags this October on strategies for engaging in environmental practices through Buddhist principles.
